Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Ayurveda ?

Ayurveda is a big and deep concept and cannot just be explained with one definition to fully grasp the value and the essence of it.

The word is derived from the Sanskrit Language and consists of 2 concepts:

- AYUR + VEDA, where

“Ayur/Ayus ” means Life/ Lifespan  and “Veda” means Knowledge/wisdom/science.

To describe this concept in more detail, it can be described as follows:

Ayurveda is the Science of Life, Balance, Healing and Longevity, encompassing All Life and Life as a Whole, whilst gaining great awareness. It integrates all levels of our multi-dimensional existence as well as our relationships with ourselves and the environment we find ourselves in. The science therefore, exhibits the intertwined relations we have to ALL Life or Life-forms.

2. What is Sanskrit?

Together with Sumerian, Akkadian, and Tamil Language, Sanskrit is one of the most ancient, documented languages and originates from the Indo-European and Indo- Aryan complex. Today in modern times, Sanskrit is used for ceremonial, spiritual ritual and healing purposes in the form of Chants and Hymns, especially by Buddhists and Hindus. An interesting fact about Sanskrit is that it is a language of vibration and liberation. Any Sanskrit word encompasses more than only a dictionary or word-per-word-meaning like it is often found in other languages.

Uttering any Sanskrit word or phrase, the so-called ‘Mantras’, merely unlocks inner actions and connections in the body. There are 84 meridian points inside the mouth (64 in the hard palate and the rest in the soft palate). Each strike of the tongue on the palate, while also sending vibrations of sound, e.g., the vocals (A-E-I-O-U), will activate certain points in the mouth and will result in deeper and more subtle actions. Imagine which sounds can be made without using the tongue.

You will find it is only A-U-M sounds (like in the OM-Mantra).

The mouth meridian points are subtle channels that are connected to glands and chakras in the body. Our 7 main Chakras are all functioning on different frequencies or vibrations. Each vibration communicates differently, resulting in different effects, or is “speaking” to activate specific glands in the brain.

Each Chakra is also connected to specific glands in the body, allowing for the excretion of endocrine fluids and flow through channels. Even if we do not understand the ‘word’ meaning of Sanskrit, when we utter the syllables of Sanskrit or chant mantras, there are powerful activations being set off.

3. What is the Goal of Ayurveda ?

The goal of this profound healing and medicine system is to:

  • prevent imbalance and disease

  • cure imbalance and disease

  • finding & fulfilling  one’s unique purpose

  • Consciousness expansion to reach one’s full Divine potential

For the yet healthy person, Ayurveda comes in handy to maintain and heighten the most optimal levels of Health, Wellbeing and Vitality. The result is Longevity & lasting Joy.

Every Human Being endeavours to have a long, abundant, happy life, prospering to our full potential so that we can experience life to the fullest. Do we not ALL aspire to that ‘wonder pill’ to be cured immediately from any pain, suffering, discomfort, and illness? Imagine a drug called ‘Nectar of Immortality’ that works! - We would all rush to it, not to miss it. Don't we?

4. Is Ayurveda a Medicine System?

Yes, Ayurveda is a well-organised, natural, holistic medicinal system that meticulously follows a systematic causative approach to human biology as a system to navigate to the root of any imbalance and disease. Treating humans at the root starts with the first "hub of transformation," the digestive system. Ayurveda allows a person to regain a state of Optimal Balance & Health, Wellness and Wellbeing which transcends our karmic cycles.

Optimal health is achieved when Physical Body, Mental Body and Spirit and its social environment are in true harmony with each other and in alignment with Nature and its' Cycles like Day& Night cycles, Seasonal Cycles and Life time Cycles.

The following branches of medicine were already practiced approximately. 5000 years ago, and were compiled as scriptures of eight parts. The knowledge and insight derived by  the Ancient  Seers, or better said -  'The Great Rishis' established the Traditional Indian Medicine system:

§  Kaya Chikitsa (General Medicine)

§  Bala Chikitsa (Paediatrics)

§  Graha Chikitsa (Psychiatry)

§  Urdhwanga Chikitsa (Ophthalmology & ENT)

§  Shalya Chikitsa (ParaSurgical & Marma)

§  Visha Chikitsa (Toxicology)

§  Jara Chikitsa (Rasayana)

§  Vrisha Chikitsa (Aphrodisiac Treatment)

We can truly observe Ayurveda as " The Mother of all medicine systems," and often stated this way.

5. Is Ayurveda a Healing Art?

Any Piece of Art is an expression of a Godly Creation, a Godly Force moving through the person expressing it. Life is a Divine Creation in itself.

Looking at life itself—or how we create or recreate our Life, is an Art in a more subtle form.

There is no doubt that Life is an Art! Life can be viewed as an artfully woven Canvas with many possible patterns. Some patterns lead to Harmony, ease and great health; some patterns lead to disharmony, imbalance and disease.

The answer to whether Ayurveda or an Ayurvedic practitioner performs a healing art lies within the Creation of Balance of the '3-Bodily-humor-system' following a holistic approach with an emphasis on interconnectedness and designing individualised treatment plans that will align with the client's/patient’s environment and stage of Life. In a nutshell, Ayurveda heals all interconnected relationships on various levels.

The ability to balance anything lies in the knowledge and understanding of the practitioner. He/she needs to understand the properties, characteristics, and behaviour of those ‘elements’ we wish to balance. We need to know the nature of the client/patient first, then we need to understand the nature of his/her relationships with his/her environment. Lastly, we need to know the nature of his/her imbalance/disease, their habits and also the nature of the medicine to be applied. Ayurveda views food, spices and herbs as medicine.

The Ayurvedic practitioner assists their clients on their healing journey through the application of an artfully tailored treatment plan suitable and implementable for his/her individualised condition.

To provide such a treatment plan, the Ayurvedic Practitioner also needs to know the nature of the medicine or treatment to institute balance.

Any individualised treatment plan has become a Piece of art as

There is not one and the same solution for all people’s challenges.

What works for me might not work for you !

For everybody, there is a solution! - a personalised one, suitable for each and everyone’s blueprint.

6. Where does  Ayurveda have its origin?

This profound wisdom found its earliest inscription in the world's oldest scripts—the 4 Vedas (Rigveda, Atharvaveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda) around approx. 5000 years ago. Rooted in the knowledge bestowed by (The Creator), it not only applied successfully dating back to that time but had been artfully woven into the fabric of community practices long before, reaching as far back as 3000 BCE and more.

In conjunction with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurveda is recognised as the oldest medicine system called into Life by the Great Rishis, an Ancient Civilization of the Indus Valley at the foot of the Himalayas.

  • The core of every divine human spirit lies the innate anchor of Ayurvedic wisdom, stirring to life in those who seek to align and harmonise with Source - God, Our Higher Self and Nature. This conscious alignment of one’s internal and external environments unfolds a journey towards wholeness/profound oneness and purity, where the union with these cosmic forces not only imply healing but embodies a profound experience of complete unity.

All Ayurvedic Knowledge was gained through Direct Perception, Observation and inference. Teachings were delivered through Divine Channelings from the Source ITSELF, harboured in Akashic records and taught by the Greatest Sages to their Descendants.

7. Is it true that Ayurveda is only a Philosophy?

No, not only! But yes! it is a study of the basic ideas about knowledge, truth, right and wrong, religion, and the nature and meaning of life, the wisdom of Love.

The need to know more, the relentless search for knowing ourselves better and deeper, and who we are at the essence of our being, is a search for Truth. The Journey is anchored in ‘The Love for Wisdom’, which has always been anchored in  the heart of Humanity through the deep quest of our purpose and to make sense in this world. Constantly, we are searching for our fundamental Truth, our real Personality or also our REALITY and how we relate to all existences in the external world.

Ayurveda orientates itself towards the Sankhya Philosophy, allowing us to make sense of our world through our senses. The ability to perceive oneself and experience the world is made possible by an array of potentialities. e.g. for sensory experiences, root energies before it takes the physical manifestation of the five senses, five sense organs of action originating from the five Great Elements (Sanskrit: Pancha Maha Bhutas).

The Philosophy, however, rests on a dualistic view of experiencing ourselves as separate from the Other. It is either THIS or THAT e.g. hot or cold; this is Me and that is you.

All forms come into existence as the merging of two separate potentialities: Pure Potential for Consciousness (Purusha—Divine Masculine aspect) and Pure Potential for Matter (Prakriti—Divine Feminine aspect).

Through this Philosophy we can navigate our quest of Life. Who are we truly? What are we doing here? Where do we come from, and Where are we heading?

The answer lies in experiencing both sides to finally know how to stay on the golden Middle-path, which means to be balanced and heart-centred.

8. What has Ayurvedic Healing to do  with a Five -senses Therapy?

As we perceive ourselves and the world through all five senses, we can experience Life on a sensory level. Therefore, Ayurveda places a focus on healthy use of the five senses to create optimal health.

Practices and therapies of Ayurveda may entail healing the five Senses, namely:

Diet & Nutrition, Exercise, Sound Therapy, Visual Therapies, Massages, Olfactory Therapy.

In summary, there are therapies for each sense.

9. Is Ayurveda regarded as a Journey of  Alchemy?

Healing is indeed not happening in an instant, as Ayurveda views healing as comprehensive as encompassing all dimensions. Healing happens as we are called to a Journey of transformation and transmutation. The Ayurvedic Health Counsellor plays a significant role in the guidance during the process of unlocking the client's own healing powers to heal itself – in fact, the body has the natural ability to heal itself—once the ego, the illusioned mind, and the deep-seated habits make way for healthy choices.

People need to realise that achieving fulfilment of purpose/self-actualisation is the destination. Without optimal Health, it is hard to reach the destination. We incarnated on this planet to experience our full human potential with Joy and Love as an expression of God. The path is sprinkled with so many inspiring notes from the Soul as well as barriers to overcome. We continuously arrive at crossroads where choices need to be made. With each choice we experience and learn.

It’s a Journey of choices upon choices. Therefore, Life is lying one one’s own hands of creation and responsibility.

Transformation and transmutation are Key to Expansion.

10. Why is Ayurveda regarded as a Science ?

Ayurveda relies on a long, rich history of observations made through direct perception on the effects of herbal remedies, pharmacological actions and practised treatments over thousands of years. This knowledge was not based on a theory but rather derived from practical experience. This makes it empirical knowledge!

All these experiences and treatments were well documented by Ayurvedic Practitioners, who created a proper taxonomy to categorize various aspects of health & disease according to their properties and elemental constructs, e.g., doshas/bio energies, physical tissue systems, and structural and functional systems.

11. What is a Dosha?

The word ‘Dosha’ is the Sanskrit word for bodily humor. A bodily humor is understood as an energetic template with certain qualities derived from the elemental construct and the attributes thereof that will manifest with certain attributes and qualities in a physical form. The doshas have certain qualities and attributes and will act like our governors for our physical and mental processes.

On the planet, we have 3 doshas that govern all physical and mental processes and are called Kapha, Pitta and Vata. All living beings (all plants, animals, and humans consist of all 3 doshas, but in different, unique quantities. The doshas are made up of a combination of 2’s of the 5 primary elements on this planet: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether.

Kapha = Earth + Water

Pitta = Little water + Fire

Vata = Air + Ether

12. What is Agni?

Agni is a Sanskrit word, which means “digestive fire”. All impressions that we bring into ourselves need to be transformed. Altogether, we have 13 digestive fires, whereby the main digestive fire is harboured in our digestive tract, our ‘Belly fire,’ which has the Job to transform food to nutrients.

13. What can Ayurveda heal?

Ayurveda can heal the body from any imbalanced state. All imbalanced states will eventually lead to disease. Ayurvedic medicine does best with digestive disorders, mental health, chronic diseases and auto immune diseases as Ayurveda treats the cause of any disease.

Ayurveda does not only focus on the physical body but very much incorporates the more subtle levels like emotional, mental and energy levels and is phenomenal in natural immunity, detoxing, healthy weight loss, skin diseases, respiratory disorders, and Neurological diseases.

14. How do Ayurvedic Treatments look like?

Mostly, clients will be redirected to their original state of doshic construct by applying dietary changes, lifestyle changes, exercise programs, breathing techniques, herbal & spice formulations, and supplements if needed.

15. Is Ayurveda safe for Children?

Yes!

16. Can Ayurvedic medicine be applied together with allopathic medicine?

Yes, both approaches can be practiced simultaneously and might have a collaborative effect. As Ayurveda focuses more on the root or cause of a disease, there is no harm done applying medicine from the Ayurvedic side. Ayurveda focuses a lot on nutrition. Ayurvedic medicine is gentle in approach with long-lasting effects. Ayurvedic treatments are holistic and natural and can cover the areas where the allopathic system does not focus on.

17. What is the True Power of Ayurveda ?

Ayurveda recognises the earliest signs & symptoms before any disease is manifested in the body. By applying small treatments, the client is back to its divine balance.

18. What is a disadvantage of Ayurvedic medicine ?

Depending on the stage of disease, Ayurveda is not a quick fix solution; however, it yields a long-term solution. For very acute cases of disease, the Western Medicine Approach may be a better solution. Ayurveda is not part of any Medical Insurance at this stage and can therefore not be claimed by any Medical Aid.

19. Is an  Ayurvedic  Health Counselor (AHC) qualified to make pathological diagnoses?

No, an AHC did not study Western Medicine and is not a medical practitioner, but may refer his/her client to a medical practitioner. An AHC may not recommend any changes to a prescription of Western Medicine.
