The Role of an Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC)
Ayurvedic Health Counseling facilitates a process of unlocking an individual’s innate healing power, restoring harmony and balance in their life in a practical and simplistic way.
As an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, I am devoted to offering a high integrity, trustworthy, judgment-free environment during all sessions on your journey towards healing and harmony.
“If diet is no good, medicine is of no use. If diet is good, medicine is of no need.” – Ayurvedic Proverb.
Ayurvedic approaches harness the true power of the natural world, like pure food, spices, and herbs. Practically, we address dietary habits with personalized treatment plans, lifestyle changes, sleep quality, exercise habits, and creative outlooks.
When we are in harmony, we are healthy and live our lives with ease. When we are not healthy, we no longer navigate life with ease. In a nutshell, where there is disharmony, there are imbalances. When imbalances are not addressed, ‘disease’ is inevitable. The concept of ‘health’ encompasses the whole human: physical health, mental health, emotional health, and spiritual health.
Ayurveda is a medicinal system that identifies the cause/root of issues. Symptoms narrate the story and provide threads to the causes/roots of an imbalance or disease.
Ayurvedic treatments are gentle, personalized, and designed for long-term sustainability. Humans have unique constitutions and environments, leading to unique expressions. We strongly believe that there is not one solution fitting all, but there is a solution for everybody.
Only side benefits – no side effects.
Ayurveda, as the science of the living, empowers individuals with self-mastery skills. This includes mastering emotions, overcoming sensory attachments, and creating greater awareness for making beneficial choices. Healthy choices lead to greater harmony and purpose. Past traumas and old bondages are addressed. Moving beyond the past, beyond traumas and karmic cycles, into ‘present-moment awareness,’ allows an individual to build a boundless future of abundance and prosperity with clarity and vision.
The Ayurvedic Journey:
The Divine Balance of Creation
Each individual is divinely created (at conception) in an optimal and fine balance of a five-elemental construct. Every living being on this planet is primarily made up of The Five Great Elements (Sanskrit: Pancha Maha Bhutus) – Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space/Ether. These elements have specific attributes and manifest in physical form. Since everything in the cosmos is interconnected, these elements act together as three doshas: Earth & Water form Kapha, Fire & a tiny amount of Water form Pitta, and Air & Ether form Vata.
These doshas determine our body structure, functions, pulse, and tendencies to imbalances. It is our duty to maintain these doshas as we receive them divinely. This divine harmony keeps us in optimal health.
Navigating Imbalances and Returning to Wholeness
Through life, we may deviate from our original state of being due to deep-seated habits, ignorance, and unawareness of our minds and emotional states. Influential figures like guardians, parents, and teachers may contribute to our imbalances. Often, we are unconscious of the tendencies that bring us suffering or ‘states of disease.’
Forgetting our true nature as spirit, limited self-perceptions, lack of awareness, and knowledge about the body’s functioning, and interconnectedness of mind, emotions, and habits contribute to misusing our senses, leading to imbalance.
Humans rely on ‘listening to our body and the voice within,’ which holds truth only when aligned with divine nature and its cycles. Once out of balance, our body and mind no longer provide correct impulses to maintain doshas. In any disease, the dosha (biological energy/humour) of Vata, Pitta, or Kapha is the ‘culprit’ causing the imbalance.
The mind acts as a superb trickster, often leading us to commit crimes against our own wisdom. The goal is to navigate through the illusioned mind to find our true being as spirit/soul’s voice.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Imbalance/Disease
Ayurveda tackles imbalances and diseases at their root, aiming to restore the original balance of biological energies. Balance means returning to our original Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Optimal processing of impressions through our senses and proper metabolization is the cornerstone of health. Effective digestion and nutrient absorption are vital for a healthy flow of nutrients and subtle cell information. Optimal processing and absorption safeguard a healthy immune system, tissue formation, and elimination patterns.
Every disease starts with an imbalanced state with mild and transient symptoms, often unnoticed. An Ayurvedic Counselor helps unlock your body’s innate healing power. Modern medicine, combined with the Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle, offers a strong ally.
Healthy digestion lies at the heart of a healthy, wealthy, and happy life. The ancient Ayurvedic saying, ‘You ARE what you assimilate and not eliminate,’ reflects this truth. It applies to all sensory impressions: hearing, seeing, feeling, touching, and smelling – processed through the Five Great Senses (Sanskrit: Pancha Jnanendriya).
